I was born in California, lived in California as a buffer between living in other states, and I currently live in California. California is my home, but it's not my only home. Home is where the heart is, and I left part of my heart in two other states. One I don't remember, and the other one can suck it.
I have lived in five states. This is one of my go-to fun facts, because "I broke my head when I was three" is something I work up to in real life.
So I'm a Californian through and through. I hate weather and humidity; I wear a sweatshirt and shorts; I can drive in 70 mph gusts of wind but fuck me if there's three snowflakes on the ground. But my parents were in the military, and as a baby, I lived in Kentucky. Here, I was apparently addicted to Gomer Pyle, and I learned the word "golly" from him. It was my first word. I also developed a love for at the time brand-new show Small Wonder, and I picked up a little brother. But then my parents gave up their military life, and we went back to California, where I picked up another little brother.
After I started kindergarten, my parents decided that they were over living in the same place for any length of time or something, and we moved to Georgia. I spent my formative years there, from the last half of kindergarten to about a third of seventh grade. I also lived in atrailer park mobile home community manufactured home community. Let's just say I'm obsessed with Jeff Foxworthy for a good reason and I have owned many redneck joke a day calendars. As in, more than two. Georgia left its mark on me. I also lived there for another five months as an adult.
For three and a half months, I lived in Tennessee. Fuck Tennessee. You know what you did, unless you live in a major city. But if you live in a major city in Tennessee, and I tell you I lived in a rural town and I'm biracial, you might get why I'm not so warm to that state. I do love the cities in Tennessee, but I have only been back once after I moved.
For nearly twenty two months, I lived in Delaware. It's the first state, and it's a small state, but it took a piece of my heart in those twenty two months. I loved how historical the state was, and autumn was such a joy that I didn't mind the weather, and you couldn't walk to like, school, but you could walk nearly everything else. All the homes were in developments, and the developments were usually behind shopping centers. I lived on the same street as Wendy's, and could still walk to Popeye's and a grocery store. I also had my only white Thanksgiving in Delaware. And our yard was huge. I would love to go back to Delaware.
So my top three favorite states are California, Georgia, and Delaware. Tennessee is the state I hate second most. I'm going to save the state I hate most for another day, but it is not a state I've lived in. I've been to 20 states, so there's no narrowing it down.
